On 29 August Matthew celebrated his 32nd birthday! First birthday overseas and first birthday without family – but with our amazing friends here it was an awesome day! It already started at midnight when he got back from Finland and Sabrina and Sascha were visiting! In exchange for pressies for me from Finland (I’ll do a separate post about that!) he got to open one of his presents…To the sounds of a ukulele…LOL
A whole lot of us clubbed together and splurged to get him LEDERHOSEN!!! And boy do they look sexy or what!!
He was utterly thrilled and felt super spoiled!!! It’s so wonderful that we had such great friends here that helped make his day so special!! After chatting for quite a while longer, it was finally off to bed!
I woke up super early to get to Ulm by 08h00, and Matt headed off to work (he wore his lederhosen to work!!!!!!!!!!!!) and Sabrina and Sascha went to check out Inhofer and Senden for the morning.
Of course he was a huge hit!! :P Matt took a half-day and met up with them and they came through to Neu-Ulm where I met them at the Barfuesser for lunch! They’d liked it so much the night before that they wanted to go there again! We had a great time chatting and catching up, and then we headed back to Weissenhorn, where we still relaxed and chatted and Matt opened more pressies…
He got more choccies, and yum Haribo from Sabrina and Sascha, nom nom nom And I also gave him a Scratch Map of the World (check it out here: https://www.luckies.co.uk/new-stuff/scratch-map-personalised-world-map-poster/) Carla’s boyfriend Tom actually bought her one (SO sweet!!) and that gave me the idea! Matt totally loves it and I’m so glad! He’s already scratched off South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein, Finland, Qatar and the Persian Gulf where he wakeboarded! And next up is the UAE, the US and Canada!
Isn’t he adorable? (Thanks to Sascha for the awesome pics!!!)
Scratching away…All of us were fascinated!
Then we had to say goodbye to Sabrina and Sascha who had to carry on to the wedding – and then we went off for all-you-can-eat sushiiiiiiiiii Matt had had sushi in Finland, but I hadn’t had since SA!!! We went with Regina and met Steffi and Patrick at the mall(!!!) near Ikea! Yes, there’s a MALL, near us!!! We couldn’t believe it!!! Reminds me a lot of the Gardens Centre in Town actually. We were thrilled to have found out about it! And they had this awesome dinosaur exhibition going on!!!!!
There were conveyor belts like at Cape Town Fish Market, but it went right past the tables, so there wasn’t a bar counter type thing.
Even though the sushi wasn’t half as good as in SA, we still had a really fun time!! And there wasn’t only sushi on the conveyor belt, but also cake(!!), weird fruits(!!), crumbed calamari (which was thought was crumbed apple!!), fried banana and Chinese stirfry…Interesting indeed! Grateful for new and different experiences for sure! Oh, and no fashion sandwiches or bamboo rolls – mostly just prawns and crab! Though the salmon sashimi was nice!
We stuffed ourselves and then headed home…That was the Thursday. Then Sunday we went birthday bowling!!! The weather wasn’t nice to go swimming, so luckily some of the girls had the idea to go bowling! It was SUCH fun – we hadn’t been in so long, and didn’t even know about the bowling alley! It was a whole group of us and we really had a great time! Personally, I’ve never done so well in my life!!! I even won the one round, narrowly beating Janet!! Who has this amazing bowling style – check the cool pics!!
Matt also got super delish chocolates and Kinder Surprises from Matthias and Claudia and their family, and stunning salad servers from Janet and Franky – they knew we need some!
Urgh, look at our ugly bowling shoes!
So it was an awesome few days of birthday celebrations!! And I think Matt felt really special and spoiled – which was the plan!
Love Fratt xoxo
